VIY Workshop – 30th and 31st July 2019 – Book a space for your child now!
Assalaamu alaiykum warahmatulahi wabarakatuhu,
Message from Brother Zamir Azram – Mentor with the VIY (Volunteer It Yourself) Programme:
VIY gives young people the opportunity to learn vocational trade skills, gain a qualification and improve their employability whilst volunteering to help their local community.
VIY are running a carpentry project at the ICEC on 30th and 31st July 2019.
Students will be building benches / planters for the ICEC Centre. 3 mentors will be leading the project on both days. It is a great opportunity for students to learn skills in carpentry.
Weather permitting the project will take place outdoors in the main Markhaz car park; if it rains then we will work in doors in the new Community Hall on the High Street. We require 15 students per day, ages between 13 and 20.
The day starts with a health and safety tool box talk which covers the safe use of tools and a run through of what we have planned for the day.
Please note that for the day to run smoothly please ensure all students do not use mobiles during project activities.
All materials will be funded and supplied by Wickes. Wickes in Halesowen have just had a massive refurbishment of their store and are having an opening day on the 2nd August.
Some of the students will have an opportunity to attend the ribbon cutting ceremony. This is a great opportunity for your kids to pick up some skills and get involved working on a project for the local community.
